Mission & Vision

The mission and purposes of the Great Planers Trout and Salmon Club shall be liberally and broadly construed so as to promote sport fishing upon Lake Sakakawea, the Missouri River, Lake Oahe, and other waters in North Dakota.  More specifically, the Club’s purpose is to promote trout and salmon fishing based upon the following principles:

1.         To encourage the exchange of fishing information between Club members

2.         To provide educational opportunities in trout and salmon fishing techniques to Club members and non-members

3.         To help instruct the public and assist agencies to fight pollution of the State’s waters

4.         To encourage the respect of the right of others while engaged in fishing and other marine activities

5.         To provide all practicable assistance to government agencies responsible for fish management programs in North Dakota

6.         To operate as a non-profit, public service organization.

GPTSC 25th Annual Derby

The 25th annual Trout and Salmon Derby was held on the 20th of August with 35 teams entered.

A What a day for a boat ride and for three boats there was a fish thrown in on the deal.

Held on Lake Sakakawea August 20th we had 35 teams competing for trophies and cash. And when it was over the big winners were those who did catch a fish and I mean just one fish and that fish did not need to be very big.

If you could have landed a fish bigger than a half pound it would have put you in the money and for the team that brought in a six inch fish for fun suddenly found themselves in third place. Oh well it was all for fun any way.

The Teen division had 17 entrants and we were able to award only one placement in that division for kids 13 to 17 years old. But what a great turn out for that division.
Thanks kids for wanting to keep the tradition going. We had a bunch of kids fishing again this year in the 12 and under group but none of the little ones could get the folks running the boat to catch a fish.

So with no fish we did not hand out any trophies but we made a big deal out of them fishing anyway and we have some great pictures to prove it. Thanks kids for being a good reason to spend the day on the water. It was a pleasure to run the derby and the success is all due to great members of our club and our generous sponsors.

Thanks to our members and many hours of donated time and prizes we have continued this successful event for the 25th time. As always the e-board needs your input and your time so give is some thought to help us out.
