Additional Results:
Provided by Monte Babeck, Derby Chairman

Thirty-five teams caught a total of 28 salmon during the derby. The average weight was 5.47 pounds. That result is on par with the 5.77 average hooked in 2008 when 39 teams pulled in 83 salmon. The 2007 catch was 56 fish averaging 5.3 pounds. The largest salmon caught this year was 10.4 pounds.

The winning team was Mike and Scott Anderson of Bismarck with three salmon weighing 23.8 pounds. They were followed by Al and Kevin Nosbusch, 16.6 pounds; Tom and Bob Siems, 15.8 pounds; Duane VanDame and Odin Tollefson, 14.6 pounds; and Dennis Erhardt and John Baepple, 13.6 pounds

Although the number of salmon fishermen has declined across several low-water years on Lake Sakakawea, the Great Planers have kept the sport of salmon fishing alive in North Dakota through events such as their annual derby. In addition to the adult participation, the derby had 15 entrants in the youth division.
