2007 DERBY RESULTS:

Provided by Minot Daily News Kim Fundingsland

The consensus of participants in the Great Planers Trout and
Salmon Club’s 21st Annual Derby was that the quantity of salmon was
down but that the quality was up. The derby was held Saturday at Lake Sakakawea State Park, with 54 teams taking part.

The average size of salmon caught during the annual derby has been
dropping for several years, mostly due to a shrinking forage base and
lack of cold water habitat due to low water levels in Lake Sakakawea.

However, the largest salmon in this year’s derby was a surprising
9.5 pounder brought in by Scott Anderson of Bismarck.
The winning team, Jerry and Brandon Bauer of Mandan,
weighed in four salmon, with a total weight of 22.8 pounds.
